Retaking the NCLEX: Guidance for Indian Candidates
Updated 30 October 2026 · Educational resource for internationally educated nurses
Not every candidate passes the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt. Indian nurses who need to retest can use the experience to strengthen specific areas before the next exam.
Practical steps
- Review the candidate performance report to identify weaker Client Needs categories
- Wait the required period before reapplying (rules are set by NCSBN and the state board)
- Adjust the study plan to spend more time on previously weak areas and on question strategy
- Complete fresh practice sets rather than only reviewing old questions
- Confirm any updated fees or application steps with the state board
Many nurses pass on a subsequent attempt after targeted preparation. Maintaining consistent study habits and addressing test anxiety if present are both important.
Disclaimer: Retake rules and waiting periods can change. Verify current requirements with NCSBN and the state board of nursing.
